We used to hold our district conventions in Green Bay, Wisconsin back in the late 70's-early 80's. One year during intermission my dad, my oldest brother, a friend of my brother's, and me skipped out during intermission to visit the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame. We had so much fun we ended up missing half of the afternoon session. The friend's mom wasn't happy. Neither was our mom, for that matter. -

Game of Thrones and Walking Dead are the only must see TV for me.
I have checked out Grace and Frankie on Netflix, but only because my wife likes it. Not my cup of tea, but the writing and acting are good.
I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of House of Cards, but I kind of lost interest partway through season 3.

Also may of these stars abused their bodies, and that doesn't help.
Carrie Fisher did so many drugs in the 70's that even John Belushi told her to slow down. That's saying something.

Sad news. I heard she was in stable condition after her heart attack. Must have taken a turn for the worst.
The Star Wars movies were such an integral part of my childhood. Such a loss.

Disassociation - shunning - can we all lobby Government that it is against freedom of religion?
by stockholm_Syndrome inif jws want to inflict shunning on members who want to remain -- knock yourselves out.
but if someone wants to leave - dont believe in an evil almighty god, bible ...or just dont agree with the rules- they should be free to leave- even after being 'disfellowshipped'.
i think it was pre 1980 that you could disassociate yourself without shunning repercussions.

What if you want to shun someone because they're an asshole?
I agree that the WT's shunning policy is inhumane, but there's a lot of grey area when you're talking about the government getting involved.

Despite their false predictions aren't the JWs right? Won't the world eventually end & Paradise come?
by deegee inaren't there christian denominations who do not make false end of the world predictions but who nevertheless believe that the world will eventually end and paradise (whether in heaven or on earth) will come?.
it seems the watchtower was just jumping the gun when they made false end of the world predictions but they are nevertheless the right: the world will eventually end and paradise will come..

Humanity ceasing to exist is a far more likely scenario than a paradise earth.

Racism raise it's ugly head.. Chili's remove manager
by James Mixon inchili's remove cedar hill manager who took away man's free veterans day meal.
because he was black.
elderly white gentleman told the black veteran, "black did not serve in germany' and he told the manager the guy(black veteran) is not a veteran.
-

First of all, blacks did serve in WWII. Have neither of these men heard of the Tuskegee airmen? Secondly, is being a veteran confined solely to having fought the Germans in WWII?
This was ignorant on so many levels.

JW Facebook puriven garbage
by Lostandfound inbelow is an example of the pure cliche driven and meaningless posts by witnesses to witnesses on facebook .
it was truly a blessing from jehovah that your original plans .....didn't work out, because instead our family was able to enjoy a spiritually filled morning with ,spiritual food and spiritual entertainment and singing praises to our glorious god, grand creator and loving heavenly father jehovah was a memorable gift.
he has truly provided a perfect example of christian brotherly love through his son, our savior jesus christ.

Even when I was a Jobo, gushing nonsense like this didn't sit well with me. It all seemed a bit brown nosing and forced.
Kind of like all the comments after each assembly and convention about how 'wonderful' and 'upbuilding' it was.

Election Post-Mortem
by Simon ini'm sure many people, republicans included, are shocked at the results of the 2016 presidential election.
really, wtf!.
the polls were wrong and although it's tempting to blame voter suppression and fbi interference, that would just avoid looking at the real issues for the loss.

Running a biased primary system and choosing someone so obviously flawed as a candidate was a huge mistake
I agree wholeheartedly. All they did was play right into Trump's hands. Screwing Bernie over the way they did only gave credence to the notion that the system was corrupt, and required an outsider such as Trump to fix it. To say nothing of the fact that it alienated a lot of Bernie's supporters, and caused them to vote for someone other than her.

I was a born-in myself. Of course, that doesn't excuse the many years I stayed in even when I no longer believed it was "the truth".
